Solution
This included analyzing API behavior under load, identifying single points of failure, reviewing cryptographic key handling, and mapping the full lifecycle of order execution.
Following an immersion period working directly in the codebase, we designed a new trading API architecture to address MVP-era technical debt and strengthen the platform’s security and operational resilience. Architectural decisions (including the evaluation of gRPC, an in-house serverless framework, and fast.ly-based asynchronous processing) were guided by threat modeling and reliability requirements, resulting in reduced credential exposure and more controlled request validation.
The final design enabled a zero-downtime migration to a v2 API, improved execution reliability during peak trading activity, and introduced a more predictable and testable integration model. Throughout the engagement, Fortuna balanced hands-on engineering with high-level guidance, allowing FPG’s team to continue shipping while building durable security and reliability foundations.
Key results
Strengthened API and platform reliability during peak crypto-market activity
Reduced operational incidents through improved observability and production safeguards
Enhanced security posture by improving data flow validation and threat-resistant design patterns
